As farmers, we invest all of our money for the season in December. We start planting seedlings in our seed nursery in January and had already moved our tomato starts to the greenhouse before the uncertainty of this year became apparent in mid-March.
We watched the road go silent, like Superbowl Sunday silent, overnight and stay that way for weeks. We realized that we couldn't plant, grow, and harvest like any other year and risk having no customers to buy our produce, so we made the decision to create our own delivered CSA produce box model for the 2020 season and close the farm stand following the end of veggie start season.
We determined how many CSA shares we could reliably fill and how many we'd need to assure that we were financially able to restart in 2022, and we opened up sign-ups to those who applied first. Luckily, and surprisingly, we sold enough to be solvent in 3 days and the maximum we think we can fill with 2 weeks. What a weight off our shoulders! (We also have a wait list many people deep)
After in person sales close, you'll still be able to purchase your favorite preserved goodies, soaps, lotions, and candles, any remaining veggie and herb starts, and any excess produce production using our website for home delivery! artondalefarm.square.site.
The silver lining of such drastic changes this year is that we expect to get time to work on the exterior of the farm hall building because the parking lot will be closed! Yay!
Thank you to everyone who has supported us over the years, but especially this year. And an extra big THANK YOU to everyone who has respected our request for customers to wear masks to help keep us all safe
