Naturally Dyed Easter Eggs

Boiled Easter Egg Dyes
Ingredients:
Purple = 1½ cup shredded red beets
Rust = 7 yellow onion skins
Yellow = 3 tbsp ground turmeric or cumin
Orange = 3 tbsp chili powder
Sky Blue = 1½ cups shredded red cabbage
Green = 2 cups spinach

Directions:
1. Bring 2 cups water to a rolling boil. Add coloring agent.
2. Reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes or longer to deepen the color.
3. Strain liquid into a large mason jar, and allow to cool to room temperature, 2-3 hours.
4. Stir in 2 tablespoons white vinegar and add hard-boiled eggs.
5. Seal the jar, and refrigerate overnight or until the egg is the desired color.
6. Rub dried eggs with a dab of vegetable oil to give them a shinier finish (optional).

Non-Boiled Easter Egg Dyes
Ingredients:
Blue = 2 cups grape juice
Royal Blue = 2 cups blueberry juice
Brown = 2 cups brewed coffee

Directions:
1. Strain liquid into a large mason jar.
2. Stir in 2 tablespoons white vinegar, and add hard-boiled eggs.
3. Seal the jar, and refrigerate overnight or until the egg is the desired color.
4. Rub dried eggs with a dab of vegetable oil to give them a shinier finish (optional).
